SOMETHING IN pAUL gARGANOS NEW mETAL eDGE COLUMN kinda pisses me off . In it , he uses me as an example of how he needs to put Everclear in his magazine for some reason known only to himself , & I must clarify the unfair statement in his editorial . Paul is a good friend of mine but when someone is off base I am only too happy to rectify the situation .
pAUL SAYS " In 1991 , Skid Row's "Slave to the Grind " debuted at #1  on the Billboard Chart . Sebastian Bach's latest solo album , released 2 years ago , didn't even crack the top 200 . " TRUE . But nowhere does Mr. Gargano point out the fact to you , the reader , that "Slave to the Grind " was released by ATLANTIC RECORDS. My latest solo album was released by SPITFIRE RECORDS .
To compare Atlantic Records to Spitfire Records is unfair & ridiculous in terms of record distribution . You can go to the record store yourself & see how hard it is to find "BRING 'EM BACH ALIVE! " - yes it is in some record stores , but for every copy of "BRING 'EM BACH ALIVE!" " that I have personally seen in a store , there are 10 or 20 copies of every Skid Row Atlantic Records release . There is no way you can get on a record chart if your album is not in the store in the first place . Now I like being with Spitfire , they are a great company that is getting bigger every day , but as far as I know Spitfire Records has yet to put ANY ALBUM AT ALL on the Billboard chart , Paul Gargano . Not to mention the fact that I was BOOTED OUT of Skid Row , dropped from McGhee Entertainment , dropped by Atlantic in the USA ( although this situation is being debated all the time by Atlantic ), had the #1 video on MTV for the 3 weeks prior to the release of "Slave To The Grind  " (Monkey Business ) , & was on tour with Guns'N'Roses in STADIUMS for the month preceeding the release of "Slave To The Grind " ! Did I have any video at all for "BRING 'EM BACH ALIVE !"? No. Was I playing stadiums with Guns'N'Roses for the month preceeding the release of "BRING 'EM BACH ALIVE!" ? Um, no. Did anyone like Doc McGhee help me out with the solo CD ? No . It's just me , my fans , & my band - I'm a man of simple pleasures , always have been . Did Paul mention that the CD was released a year earlier around the world (except for the USA ) by Atlantic & bought by my fans through Amazon.com before it was ever even released in America ? Oops ! forgot that too . The fact is that I headline the EXACT same places with my solo band  that I did with Skid Row , & in some cities , BIGGER places than I played with Skid Row on the "Subhuman Race " tour .  Things are growing every day at Spitfire , but to assume that somehow I should be the first artist they EVER have to get on the Billboard chart is a compliment in some weird way , but not realistic in lieu of the fantastic artists they have on their roster , some of whom have been around decades longer than myself as solo artists already . I was FORCED to be a solo artist by circumstance  & instead of sitting around trying to turn into Everclear , I honoured the bond I forged with my fans over the years & hit the road & made a solo CD . If the CD didn't hit #1 on the chart do I consider it a failure ? FUCK NO ! ( Like hitting #1 ONCE in your life isn't ENOUGH fer chrissakes  !!! ) I am happy as hell with the CD & so are my fans & that is good enough for me ! Like the song says , "I'll NEVER Turn My Back On Rock'N'Roll "! what part of NEVER don't you understand ?
